SF6 is a gas of great importance in the electric power industry; currently, the vast majority of high-voltage circuit breakers and enclosed substations use this gas as a medium for insulation or for extinguishing electric arcs. The gas possesses important properties for these functions; however, handling it poses a major challenge due to its high global warming potential, making maintenance necessary to ensure that the equipment using it operates properly. Monitoring the gas ensures it remains in optimal condition for any eventuality; it allows for the identification of trends to quantify leaks, and reduces the number of connections and disconnections required for sampling that could cause leaks. VAISALA has a long history of measuring these variables, ensuring a reliable method for measuring parameters such as humidity, pressure, and temperature. The system is capable of measuring three parameters and calculating four others, as well as transmitting this data to a control center or SCADA system via Modbus or RS-485.
